The Bay Theatre

THE BAY THEATRE is located in downtown Suttons Bay in beautiful Leelanau County, Michigan.

The Bay Theatre

A renovated, historic & charming single-screen movie theater and concert venue dating back to 1946 and renovated in the 1970s. The Bay retains a vintage look with its original hardwood flooring and re-furbished turquoise seats. After decades of showing 16mm and 35mm films, in 2013 it converted to digital technology and now offers state-of-the-art Christie Digital Projection and Dolby Surround Sound. An early leader in selective and diverse film programming, The Bay has been showing quality first-run, Academy-Award Winning, blockbusters, independent and foreign films for 40 years. It is home to The Bay Film Series, a popular subscription series (open to the public as well) which begins each September thru April featuring award-winning films from around the world. The Bay Theatre has also been a venue for live music and dramatic theater since the late 1970s with numerous shows involving local performers and nationally-renowned musicians. A comfortable, intimate setting with great acoustics, The Bay is an excellent venue for live shows. Some of its earliest concerts featured Jim Post and John Lee Hooker, Taj Mahal and Elizabeth Cotton, T Bone Burnett and Mose Allison. Other performers over the years include Utah Phillips, Greg Brown, John Gorka, Chris Smither, Jeff Daniels and more. The Bay serves up delicious popcorn and full concessions at reasonable prices. It is open daily and year round.
