Inland Seas Education Association

Inland Seas Education Association (ISEA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to help people of all ages experience the science and spirit of the Great Lakes through hands-on, experiential learning activities aboard a traditionally-rigged tall ship schooner. The knowledge gained through these experiences will provide the education, understanding, and commitment needed for the long-term stewardship of the Great Lakes. ISEA was established in 1989 by Tom Kelly, John Elder, and Peter Dornto to provide aquatic science, environmental awareness, and sail training classes for learners of all ages. Classes are conducted aboard tall ships to complement traditional classroom studies in ecology, history, geography, geology, biology, chemistry, and meteorology. By 2009, over 83,000 students have participated in a Schoolship Program. It is the mission of Inland Seas Education Association to enhance public understanding and stewardship of the Great Lakes through hands-on shipboard and onshore educational programs for children and adults. This past year, 2014, was a very special year for the organization as it hit several key milestones and accomplishments. Since Inland Seas Education Association was established, we have had the opportunity to impact the lives of people of all ages. We have welcomed over 100,000 young, future scientists aboard the ISEA Schooner. The schooner also celebrated a milestone as it hit its 20th anniversary in service. On top of all that, ISEA celebrated their 25th anniversary and the education center building celebrated it's 100th anniversary. We want to thank everyone who has helped to make this possible through your donations and ask that you continue to support this wonderful educational program.
