Event Details

"The mission of the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra is to produce live professional orchestral performances, providing entertainment, education, and inspiration for our northern Michigan community."

The founder of Violins of Hope, Amnon Weinstein, has spent the last two decades locating and restoring violins that were played by Jewish musicians during the Holocaust. They are traveling now across the world to break the silence of those six million killed. They are known as the Violins of Hope.

Please join the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra and chorus for a special evening of music played on a restored instrument, once played by musicians in the Terazin Concentration Camp in Czechoslovakia. Selections include works by composers P.Hass, G. Klein, H. Krasa all of whom composed music while in the camp and all were silenced during the Holocaust. Selections from Schindler’s List by John Williams and the Mozart Requiem will also be featured. The concert begins at 7:00pm. Please join conductor Libor Ondras at 6pm for his pre-concert talk to hear background information on the music to be performed.
