About This Event
Tobin Sprout a Leland resident, is an artist and multi instrumental musician. He is best known for his contributions as a member of indie rock group Guided by Voices. A self-taught musician, Sprout played with and was a major collaborator to the Dayton, Ohio band Guided by Voices. Employing a four-track recorder and a home studio he contributed to the unique lo-fi sound of Guided by Voices and he was a member of the band from 1987 through 1997. The band frequently recorded in Sprout's home studio. As a member of the band he contributed as a co-writer, multi-instrumentalist and studio engineer. Guided by Voices songs written by Sprout include "It's Like Soul Man," "Awful Bliss," and "Atom Eyes".
This PRE tour concert will introduce us to Sprout’s sixth solo album and his first since 2010. “The Universe and Me is a real treasure and was well worth the wait. It seems Toby is still in that same creative groove that gave us some of the best moments on the six-reformed classic lineup Guided by Voices albums.” (thefirenote.com, Daniel Taylor, Photographer/journalist, Jan 23, 2017).
behind shed_nJust as in the early GBV albums, Universe and Me was recorded in the Tobin’s home studio in Leland, so it is fitting that the first show be in Leland. The band, Tommy Schichtel on guitar, Gary Vermillion on drums and Steve Vermillion on bass have played with Toby on various occasions, but this is the first they will play together as a band---- in front of an audience.
After this premiere performance, Tobin and the band will begin a Universe and Me promotional East Coast tour starting on April 20th in Cincinnati. For a list of tour dates go to tobinsprout.net
A special thank you to Tobin Sprout and the band for their generosity, the ticket proceeds will benefit the Old Art Building.
