The Inheritance (Selections) by Matthew Lopez

Directed and Produced by Micah Mabey

Thursday, February 10th @ 6pm at The Cathedral Barns

Presented in partnership with Up North Pride and the Thomas Judd Care Center

Winner of the 2020 Tony Award for Best Play. Winner of the 2020 Drama Desk Award for Best Play. Winner of the 2019 Olivier Award for Best Play. Decades after the height of the AIDS epidemic, THE INHERITANCE tells the story of three generations of gay men in New York City attempting to forge a future for themselves amid a turbulent and changing America. Eric Glass is a political activist engaged to his writer boyfriend, Toby Darling. When two strangers enter their lives—an older man and a younger one—their futures suddenly become uncertain as they begin to chart divergent paths. Inspired by E.M. Forster’s masterpiece Howards End, THE INHERITANCE is an epic examination of survival, healing, class divide, and what it means to call a place home.

P45 is partnering with Up North Pride to bridge and mend the divide between generations of people who were deeply affected by the AIDS epidemic and the younger generations of Traverse City who have known only a life of declining HIV infection rates.

The original production of The Inheritance ran 7 hours long. Selections for this reading will total 90 minutes. Adult language. Sexual content. Appropriate for ages 17 and up

Play readings will be directed and produced by members of P45's 2022 Resident Company: Sarah Bielman, Katie Clark, Noah Durham Fried, Sara Hartley, Alexandra Herryman, Jeremy Hogue, Micah Mabey, and Kristen Stewart
