"The mission of the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra is to produce live professional orchestral performances, providing entertainment, education, and inspiration for our northern Michigan community."
The Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra is pleased to present our Composer-in-Residence, Gwyneth Walker, whose works will be featured this season. Widely performed throughout the country, the music of the American composer Gwyneth Walker is beloved by performers and audiences alike for its energy, beauty, reverence, drama and humor.
The Orchestra commissioned Walker to compose the Great Lakes Overture, which is part of a larger work, a cantata for chorus and orchestra entitled The Great Lakes. The overture was composed especially to celebrate the opening of the GLCO 2018-19 season at the Great Lakes Center for the Arts.
The Orchestra will be joined by the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra Chorus which will be performing A Testament to Peace by Walker. This is a set of three songs of peace oriented themes, entitled Tell the Earth to Shake, The Tree of Peace, There is a Way to Glory.
Additional concert selections include Serenade by Suk, and the Classical Symphony by Prokofiev. Plan to arrive early to attend the Pre-Concert Talk with Conductor, Libor Ondras at 6pm.
