Palette Bistro is putting Napa Valley Vineyards to the test with a "Freemark Abbey vs. La Jota Jackson Family Estates" five-course wine dinner, prepared by Daniel Travis, Chef de Cuisine, with featured entrées: Grilled Peach Salad, Seared Scallop, Smoked Duck, Coffee Rubbed Filet and Toasted Marshmallow Milkshake. Special guest, Ted Ross of Jackson Family Estates will guide guests through five perfectly paired wines.
Freemark Abbey History (according to the Jackson Family website):
"One of the most venerated Napa Valley wineries, Freemark Abbey has a history that dates back to 1886 when a widow by the name of Josephine Tychson, the first female vintner in California, built the original redwood cellar on which the estate sits. Today, it is best known for crafting classically structured Cabernet Sauvignon from pedigreed sites, including the iconic Bosché and Sycamore vineyards. The winery is also home to one of the region’s most extensive wine libraries.
Freemark Abbey competed in "The Judgment of Paris" blind tasting in 1976, the only winery with a red and white wine represented. California wines won in every category, catapulting Napa Valley onto the world stage."
La Jota History (according to the Jackson Family website):
"Built of stone in 1898, the La Jota Vineyard Co. has deep roots in Napa Valley’s winemaking history. Today, Winemaker Chris Carpenter produces small quantities of mountain Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc from the winery’s estate La Jota Vineyard and nearby W.S. Keyes Vineyard.
The wines capture the intense fruit and mineral complexity of their cool-climate location on Howell Mountain."
