Everybody by Branden Jacobs Jenkins
Directed and Produced by Jeremy Hogue
Thursday, March 3rd @ 6pm at The Cathedral Barns
Presented in partnership with Anthony Weber, Pastor, Church of the Living God and Ethics Professor at NMC
Finalist for the 2018 Pulitzer Prize. “This is theatre rather unlike anything you might have seen…unusual, unconventional and eye-opening…Everyman is no barrel of laughs, being a morality play about death. EVERYBODY tells the same tale, with equal emotional heft; but it is not only provocative and involving, it is also funny. Wildly funny, in fact.” —Huffington Post. “…[a] very meta and saucy adaptation…” —Time Out NY. “[EVERYBODY] fills the heart in a new and unexpected way.” —The New Yorker.
Branden Jacobs-Jenkins’ play, written before the pandemic, is a modern adaptation of the fifteenth-century morality play, "The Summoning of Everyman," one of the earliest known plays in the English language. Morality plays, popular in 15th- and 16th-century, used allegorical stories to teach a moral message, underpinned by Christian teachings. Anthony Weber from the Church of the Living God, will unpack the story of a person confronted with their own death. He will guide us in a meditation on spiritual transcendence, surrender and the communal experience.
Run Time 90 minutes. Adult language. For ages 12 and up.
Play readings will be directed and produced by members of P45's 2022 Resident Company: Sarah Bielman, Katie Clark, Noah Durham Fried, Sara Hartley, Alexandra Herryman, Jeremy Hogue, Micah Mabey, and Kristen Stewart
