Join us on Wednesday, June 6th from 7:00pm-9:00pm for an evening of discovering how to grow a cutting garden with Michelle Shackelford of Leelanau Specialty Cut Flowers!

During this lovely presentation on growing a cutting garden, Michelle will share with us information about the growing local flower movement. Her presentation will include a beautiful 16-minute video sharing how flower growers across the country are contributing to this movement.

There is no fee for this class. Donations to support The Botanic Garden at Historic Barns Park are always appreciated.

Michelle will discuss how to grow and tend a wide array of cut flowers and you'll get a firsthand look at how she starts her seedlings, transplants them, and harvests from them. She will also demonstrate how to make a beautiful bouquet straight from the garden and how to make fresh cut flowers last!

About our presenter, Michelle Shackelford:

While Michelle has only been growing cut flowers professionally for 5 years, she has had a lifelong passion for plants, planting her first garden at the age of 4. Today, she is a self-proclaimed “plant hoarder”, growing hundreds of varieties of flowers.

Michelle studied landscape and nursery at Northern Michigan College and Michigan State University. After 10 summers working as an Integrated Pest Management scout, she retired from that business to farm full time in Cedar, Michigan.

Michelle grows hundreds of varieties of cut flowers. She markets them to wedding florists and brides-to-be, and through her bouquet CSA. This year, her flowers will also be available at her new farm stand and at select grocery stores in Northern Michigan! leelanauspecialtycutflowers.com
