The Music House opens their 2016 Silent Film Series on June 11th with the master, Charlie Chaplin, in one of his most acclaimed films 'Gold Rush' (1925). Chaplin plays a lone prospector who ventures to Alaska in seeking his fortune in gold. Along the way he runs into adventures, misadventures and love. This film will be accompanied by Interlochen Arts Academy pianist Steve Larson who will provide the soundtrack for the film on piano. This is very exciting for us as it is the first time in the history of our film series that we have had piano accompaniment.

In this classic film written, directed by and starring Charlie Chaplin, the Lone Prospector (Chaplin) finds himself in a blizzard upon his arrival in Klondike. Seeking refuge in a cabin with some large and rough company. When the blizzard subsides, he makes his way into town. He becomes smitten with a dancer at the saloon, he realizes that finding love might be more valuable than gold.

Steve Larson will add a beautiful soundtrack to this funny and exciting film. An accompanist at Interlochen Arts Academy, Larson has played in recitals and chamber music festivals throughout the Midwest including the Absolutely Amadeus festival, the Manitou Music Festival and Chamber Music North. As a dance accompanist, Mr. Larson served as company pianist for the Milwaukee Ballet and has played for Minnesota Dance Theater, Alaska Dance Theater, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Ballet Hispanico and others. He has made dance accompaniment CDs for Aquarian Sound and Brio Recordings. His compositions have been performed by violinist Hal Grossman, the Concord Chamber Orchestra, the Interlochen Arts Academy Choir and the Backyard Recorder Consort. His improvisational skills are frequently put to use accompanying silent movies. Mr. Larson is currently organist at Grace Episcopal Church in Traverse City, Michigan.
