About This Event

The Alluvion welcomes back the one and only Djangophonique. Guaranteed to light up our stage once more, joined this time by the remarkable Warren & Flick.

Djangophonique is an award winning project that delivers the infectious joy, and expressive freedom that is at the heart of Django Reinhardt’s jazz manouche. With respect for the tradition and a fearless creativity that bends the conventions of the style, Djangophonique is keeping the Hot Club revival alive and well.

The band has been described as “…the cleanest, most genuine manouche jazz that can be heard in Michigan” (Local Spins)

Led by guitar player Andrew Brown, a true disciple of the style, the project has cultivated a community of musicians who channel the tenacious agility that the music demands. With Tyler Rindo on Clarinet, Jorian Olk-Szost on double-bass, Nicholas Martin on rhythm guitar, Grant Flick on violin, and featuring the always soulful and exciting vocalist Katie Smith.

Warren & Flick aka Jacob Warren and Grant Flick are a duo blending their styles and talents together to create music that is completely unique. A sound both invitingly full and authentically transparent; captivating listeners through original material that balances familiarity with an exploratory spirit. Jacob Warren plays double bass, and Grant Flick plays violin, tenor guitar and nyckelharpa.

Their music is a reflection of their friendship and wide musical interests. Jacob and Grant spend much of their time arranging, composing and performing together primarily developing original works. The duo documented their sound with their first album “Kestrel,” released in 2019, and their second album “Waxwing” released in May 2022. Their latest album shows an evolution in both their individual playing and ensemble with a great variety of stylistic foundation and a gentle curiosity for moving between and away from conventional idioms. With Jacob’s classical foundation and Grant’s experience in bluegrass and jazz, their contrasting backgrounds give this collaboration a unique and compelling musical narrative.
