Event Details

The Northern Michigan Brass Band (NMiBB) is a 28 piece, British-style brass band with the standardized instrumentation of 1 Eb cornet, 9 Bb cornets, 1 flugelhorn, 3 horns, 2 baritones, 2 tenor trombones, 1 bass trombone 2 euphoniums, 2 Eb tubas, 2 Bb tubas and percussion.

When planning a program, NMiBB tries to remember that not everyone listens to music in the same way. Some people listen with their heads, others with their hearts and still others with their feet. NMiBB includes music that will appeal to each of these listening styles on every program.

Our Winter 2020 Concerts will open with Fanfare and Festival Overture On A Disney Theme by Brad Kelley arranged expressly for NMiBB by the composer from his original version for orchestra, followed by A Little Prayer by Evelyn Glennie; Viking Age, a dramatic tone poem in 4 sections by French composer Thierry Deleruyelle; two traditional marches Karl King and Carl Teike; Rejoice And Be Glad by Joseph Turrin; and toe-tapping arrangements of Chanson d'Amour and Chicago!.

The featured soloist will be cornetist Les Jackson in a performance of Hermann Bellstedt's virtuoso set of variations on the traditional Italian folk song Napoli. Les is a graduate of Western Michigan University where he studied trumpet with Leonard Maretta and received his Masters Degree in Trumpet Performance from Eastern Michigan University where he studied with Carter Eggers. He joined the NMiBB solo cornet section in the fall of 2018.
