BAND BIO

Following the passing of rock and roll songwriting legend Tom Petty, The Insiders were assembled by Grand Rapids musician and lead singer / guitarist Max Lockwood, featuring some of West Michigan's best musicians for a benefit concert celebrating Petty and the Heartbreakers' legacy. Lockwood chose musicians who he knew well, both as friends and as players that he had worked with in other bands, knowing they would faithfully reproduce the classic Heartbreakers sound with the care it deserved. After the sold-out show, having discovered a high level of musical chemistry and shared love for Tom Petty's songs, the band decided to continue playing, selling out shows at venues all across Michigan.

The Insiders feature: Max Lockwood on lead vocals and guitar - bandleader of Grand Rapids rock band Big Dudee Roo, solo recording artist, and bassist for many artists including May Erlewine. Mike Lynch on keyboards - a longtime Lansing musician who has performed with the likes of Bob Seger, Larry McCray, Kid Rock, among others, and led Celtic Rock band The Lash for many years. Phil Barry - guitar, a mainstay in Kalamazoo since his days in rock band Knee Deep Shag, now one half of folk duo Thunderbolt and Lightfoot. Eric O'Daly - vocalist and multi-instrumentalist who also performs as bassist for gypsy-jazz touring act The Appleseed Collective. Joe Vanacker - bass, who has also performed with Airborne or Aquatic and Lincoln County Process. Daine Hammerle on drums, bandmate of Lockwood's in rock and roll band Big Dudee Roo, longtime MC and former drummer of If He Dies He Dies. All of these musicians have been active in West Michigan's music scene for decades and are excited to keep running down the dream, sharing some of the greatest rock and roll ever produced with audiences all over the Midwest.
