In ancient Egypt, an Ethiopian princess, Aida, is held a prisoner and she lies about her identity. Now, she is a slave of Amneris, the Egyptian King’s daughter. An Egyptian General, Radames, is secretly in love with Aida, and she with him. Then, the Egyptian King appoints Radames to supreme commander against Ethiopia. Aida is deeply conflicted about her love for her country and for Radames.
Soprano Anna Netrebko sings her first Met Aida, with mezzo-soprano Anita Rachvelishvili as her formidable rival Amneris. Aleksandrs Antonenko is the warrior Radamès, and Nicola Luisotti takes the podium for the Met’s monumental production.
