About the Winemaker, David Bos:
You’re probably hearing the name here for the first time, but you’re going to be hearing it again. We’re sure of that. A Michigan native, David Bos has just returned to the state to set up shop and is opening a tasting room in downtown Traverse City. Yet, that’s not why you’ll know the name — it’s because Bos is putting biodynamics front and center on the Michigan viticulture scene.
After he split Holland for California, he landed a vineyard manager gig at Grgich, whose vineyards he converted and took through Demeter certification, a role he held for nine years. That was a springboard to his own vineyard management company, Harvest Bos, through which he oversees organic and biodynamic viticulture for a host of California clients, from Napa to Sonoma and up through Mendocino. Now he’s bringing home what he’s learned and applying it in Michigan. Here, though, we’re introducing his California labeled Bos wines which he launched in 2010 using sourced fruit from his various vineyard projects.
Working with winemaker Jillian Johnson of Onesta (a prime mover in Bonny Doon’s transition to biodynamic winemaking), Bos is micro-producing fabulously transparent and expressive bottlings with the power to transform your understanding of what California wine can be.
