At its annual Gala, to be held on Friday, August 6, 2021, Michigan Legacy Art Park will present Detroit artist Lois Teicher with the 2021 Legacy Award.

Ms. Teicher is one of Detroit’s most prolific and groundbreaking artists. She has lived and worked in Detroit her entire life. Teicher is well known for her large-scale steel sculptures, including Curved Form with Rectangle and Space (2000), installed in Hudson Art Park near the Scarab Club, Bonnet (1999), permanently installed in the Michigan Legacy Art Park, in Thompsonville, MI, Bag (2011) in Kansas City, Missouri, Functional Reference #1 (1993) at The Dennos Museum in Traverse City, Mi and Paper Airplane Series in Bishop Airport, Flint. In addition, her work is represented in numerous private and public collections. 

The Legacy Gala features a video tribute to Teicher, silent auction, sparkling wine reception, locally-sourced dinner, and live music. Dinner includes chicken, fish or vegetarian options and a glass of wine on us. Considerations will be made for those with food allergies.

The Legacy Gala is the signature fundraiser for the nonprofit Michigan Legacy Art Park. The annual event will take place at Crystal Mountain, an award-winning four-season ski and golf resort.

Teicher is expected to be in attendance to accept the award. Mary Ann Wilkinson, Executive Director of The Scarab Club of Detroit will introduce Lois Teicher. The Scarab Club is an enduring home for the cultivation & celebration of the visual, literary and performing arts in Detroit. Art Park Board Member Maree Mulvoy is the event’s Chair.

Local radio host on WTCM Radio, Christal Frost, will serve as the evening’s host and emcee.

Michigan Legacy Art Park is a nonprofit arts organization founded by internationally acclaimed artist David Barr in 1995 to enrich lives through experiences that connect art, nature, and Michigan’s history. Contemporary Art comes to life in the park’s permanent collection of almost 50 works, located in the midst of a 30-acre forest preserve.
