Event Details

Carter's Kids creates awareness of fitness and self-esteem for America’s youth by building and developing community parks and playgrounds in neighborhoods across the country. Kids have the opportunity to take an active part in the building, which also helps create a sense of community by using, sharing, and caring for these public spaces.

The 7th Annual Carter’s Kids Golf, Dinner and Concert event will return to Lochenheath Golf Course on Friday, August 4, 2017. This year we welcome world-renowned chef and host of ABC's The Chew, Mario Batali. We also welcome HGTV hosts Chris Grundy from his Cool Tools and DYI Dominator shows and Matt Muenster from HGTV’s DIY Bath Crashers and the BATHtastic series.

This annual event has featured musicians such as G Love, Mat Kearney, and Martin Sexton and this year we look forward to welcoming alternative rock indie-tronica band from Australia, Atlas Genius . Atlas Genius has a sound driven from influences including The Police, The Beatles, Death Cab for Cutie, and Beck, and now has millions of fans and YouTube views.

Carter’s Kids was founded in 2006 by Traverse City native, Carter Oosterhouse. Carter was born and raised on Old Mission Peninsula and graduated from Traverse City’s St. Francis High School and from Central Michigan University. Carter moved to Los Angeles following graduation and has created a successful career hosting many television shows such as Trading Spaces, Three Wishes on NBC, Carter Can, Red Hot and Green, and Million Dollar Rooms for HGTV, and is the current host for the hit ABC television show The Great American Light Fight. In 2011, Carter married actress Amy Smart, who has starred in movies such as Road Trip, The Butterfly Effect, Just Friends, Crank 1 and Crank 2, and many more. Carter and Amy maintain a vacation home on Old Mission Peninsula and are owners of Bonobo Winery on Old Mission Peninsula.

Together, Carter and Amy have led the way in completing over 60 playgrounds in communities all over the United States. Carter’s Kids has also completed 8 playgrounds in Michigan and has reached an agreement with the State of Michigan to build playgrounds in State Park locations in the future, including four in 2017. Carter’s Kids playgrounds have been featured on high-profile television shows such as Good Morning America, The Steve Harvey Show, and The Doctors.

On Friday, August 4, Carter’s Kids is hosting it’s 7th Annual Carter’s Kids Charity Golf Event at Lochenheath Golf Club. The event features golf, a cocktail party, dinner, silent auction, and an after party complete with great music. In the past, the event has completely sold out the golf foursomes and typically has an attendance of between 350-400 event guests who enjoy the high level of attention that they receive from the Lochenheath Golf Club staff. Also, for HGTV and DIY Network fans, this year’s event is going to feature two HGTV network show hosts, Matt Muenster and Chris Grundy.
